Futuramachat is a very old chatroom (approximately 9 years standing) for individuals who like futurama. They do not necessarily talk about Futurama most of the time, and most of them have known eachother for years. SSFChat is the official Space Station Futurama chatroom; you may go in there to ask questions about SSF from the webmasters if they are on, or hang out and talk about SSF or Futurama, or whatever you may want. You can join other chatroom channels after the applet has loaded.

Before the applet loads, a window will popup asking you to allow the application to run. This is due to the fact that our applet is not hosted on the same server as the IRC network, and so Java will ask you if you can trust the SSF website. The network both of these chatrooms are located on is euIRC which is a well established and very large european network. If you do not accept the popup, you will not be able to use the chat applet. The only thing the applet does is allow you to connect to the euIRC network and chat in chatrooms.
Please speak in English. Some of the members in the chatrooms can speak other languages, and the euIRC network has many chatrooms with non-English speakers, mostly German. Most of the people in Futuramachat and SSFChat speak english, however.
Note that you may enter one of the chatrooms and no one is there. People cannot stay up for 24 hours and live inside chatrooms. If the chatroom is completely empty, you might try waiting a few minutes to see if someone comes on, or joining another chatroom. Also note that even if there are people in the chatroom, they may not be talking at that moment. Lots of people sit and idle in Futuramachat, which means they are in the chatroom a lot, but not always paying attention. If there are people in the chatroom, but no one is actively talking, say hello and wait patiently for a few minutes for them to respond. If no one responds in that time, you can infer that the people there are not actually there and leave to try again later. A lot of times, the people are actually there and they are busy working on something else or surfing the internet; they would love to talk to you, but you did not give them ample time to respond, which is why you should consider waiting patiently for a few minutes. The people there may or may not have answers to any questions that you may have, but most of them are usually pretty mature and generally helpful. Remember to be courteous. |
