Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth was born in the slums of Hell's Laboratory. He was born in the year 2841. The Professor is Fry's great nephew times like 20 and possibly a direct descendant as a result of Fry's "nasty in the pasty". Farnsworth once had a fling with Mom the owner of Mom Corp. the largest robot associated conglomerate in the world. He is a great inventor and has many inventions under his belt including: the Smelloscope, a Deathclock, the first robot able to get a boatloan, the Planet Express ship, a failed timemachine, a machine that makes glowy noses, a hat that runs off sunspots and can power a monkey's brain to become the president of Fox, and various other things. He's also a professor (they don't call him that for nuthin!) of the Mathematics of Quantum Neutrino Fields at Mars University. He's the leading scientist on the planet as he normally helps saves the planet from devastating destruction. That and he uses his delivery service business, Planet Express, to make a little extra money. And did you see these differing lengths of wire?
