Many people ask, 'What is Futurama'… Well,
'Futurama' is a show made by
Matt Groening. Matt also created
'The Simpsons' (another show about a family living in Springfield) and an old cartoon strip called
'Life in Hell'. Futurama is a cartoon set in the 31st century. Futurama takes place in New York (New New York to be exact). Its main characters include:
Fry (a pizza delivery boy from the 20th century),
Leela (a one eyed alien of the 31st century),
Bender (a robot that bends things), and
Professor Farnsworth (owner of the Planet Express Delivery, also Fry's Great^20 Nephew).The other cast members include:
Amy (a wealthy young babe of the 31st century),
Hermes (a Planet Express employee, also limbo star and new age beurocrat),
Dr. Zoidberg (the Planet Express doctor, also a crustacean from another planet), and
Scruffy (the Planet Express janitor).
The whole story starts with Fry, a pizza delivery boy of the 20th century, on the last night of the millennium. He is sent out to deliver a pizza to a one I. C. Weiner. After arriving at an old cryogenics lab, Fry realizes it was all a prank, and he sits down to a coke and a piece of pizza. His chair breaks and Fry falls into an old cryogenics tube and is locked away for 1000 years. When Fry wakes up he is in a job placement center (where they decide people's jobs). He meets Leela there where she tries to implant a career chip in his hand. His career was supposed to be a delivery boy, which Fry can just not accept. So he runs off. Soon he meets Bender in a bar and they walk out almost stepping into a suicide booth, which Fry mistook for a phone booth. Fry and Bender run from Leela and enter a Head Museum. There they meet famous people's heads which include: Leonard Nimoy, the presidents, and even Matt Groening. They escape through the back of the Head Museum and go toward the sewers into Old New York (New York of the 20th century. While running, Fry finds out about his only relative alive his great^20 nephew Professor Farnsworth. So Fry and Bender decide to have a little visit with the Professor. They arrive at his Delivery headquarters and the Prof. talks them into working for him, even Leela when she arrives there. Farnsworth gives them career chips so nothing will seem strange.
From then on the crew set out on adventures to other worlds. They all become good friends and Fry learns to accept the future. There are many jokes referring to what the future could be and even to the present we live in today. There are even many races and nations that are described in Futurama.
